new blogger starting out
Life as a home bound person gets a little lonely, so I'm trying a new to me way to virtually be with friends and share some of the things that make me happy, sad, interested, whatever. Sharing and community are important. Mostly, I am a quilter, enjoying the creative process, playing with color, shape, and then texture. I used to do a lot of gardening, but as my disability has worsened over the years, sadly I've had to let much of that go; I've had RSD since 1990, so I'm doing fairly well, considering.
This has been a tough summer for me. Two of my family of older kitties passed away, LuciFur and Sophie. Sort of expected after almost 15 and 17 years of sharing purrs and other things, but still very sad making. Life does go on, and Sir Simon Pooseycat, Miz Elli Tickley Whiskers and I are adjusting to being a two kitty and their human family.
Brightest blessings to LuciFur and Sophie over the Rainbow bridgehard to keep kitties off quilts! And whatever is being worked on now or is most newly finished is best, and Simon and Elli take advantage for snoozing often
As many quilters do, I have many projects underway, but I have finished several this summer
Scrappy Plaid Drunkard's Path blocks from a long ago swap set finally into a quilt in a Straight Furrows setting with a floral vine border that was also allowed to be raggedy edged. Pretty fun, and quite a change for me to let the edges fray. It's currently Simon's fav for snoozing,
and finishing the hand quilting of my scrappy "Mad About Plaid" with applique blocks from "Fairmeadow" by Jeanna Kimball set off by very scrappy Courthouse Steps blocks that was languishing for too many years. Love the whimsical mix of plaids and prints, and use often making my quilts. Peaking out from under "Mad About Plaid" is a little of one of my first quilts -- scrappy plaid Bearpaw made way back in 1991, when bigger blocks were more usual for me.
waiting for machine quilting:
and hoping for me to find the perfect additional fabric to complete:
